Program Highlights
With a modest English language proficiency requirement of CLB 4 (equivalent to middle school level), the program opens its doors to a wider pool of applicants, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
The agriculture industry boasts a plethora of employment opportunities, providing applicants with a diverse range of choices across various sectors within the agri-food domain.
The program maintains low educational requirements, making it attainable for the majority of applicants. Whether you possess a basic educational background or advanced qualifications, there's a place for you in the Agri-Food Pilot Program.
Applicants are eligible for permanent residency with just one year of work experience in an eligible occupation within the past three years. This streamlined approach accelerates the journey towards Canadian permanent residency, facilitating quicker integration into the workforce.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must secure a full-time, non-seasonal job offer in an eligible agricultural occupation. This ensures stable employment and aligns with the program’s goal of supporting Canada’s agri-food sector.
Candidates need educational credentials equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma or higher. This ensures a foundational level of education necessary for effective job performance in the agricultural sector.
Applicants must have at least one year of cumulative, non-seasonal, full-time work experience (1,560 hours) in the past three years in an eligible agricultural occupation. This demonstrates the applicant’s capability and readiness to contribute effectively to the industry.
Language proficiency is crucial; applicants must achieve a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 in English or French. For English, this corresponds to IELTS scores: Reading 3.5, Writing 4.0, Listening 4.5, and Speaking 4.0. This ensures effective communication and smooth integration into the Canadian workforce.
A Step-by-Step Guide
Begin your journey by exploring employment opportunities within the agriculture and agri-food sectors in Canada. This process typically takes 1-2 months and involves researching potential employers and job openings that align with your skills and experience.
Once you secure a job offer from a Canadian employer, the next step is for the employer to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) on your behalf. This process, which typically takes 3-6 months, assesses the impact of hiring a foreign worker on the Canadian labor market.
Upon approval of the LMIA, you can proceed to apply for a work permit to legally work in Canada. This application process usually takes 2-3 months and involves submitting required documentation, including your job offer and LMIA approval.
Once you receive your work permit, you can make arrangements to travel to Canada and commence employment with your designated employer in the agriculture or agri-food sector.
Over the course of one year, gain valuable work experience in your designated occupation within the agri-food sector. This experience is essential for eligibility to apply for permanent residency under the Agri-Food Pilot Program.
After completing one year (1,560 hours) of full-time, non-seasonal work, apply for permanent residence. Submit proof of work experience, employment, education, and language proficiency to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The processing time for a permanent residence application is around 6 months. IRCC will review your application and may request additional documents. Once approved, you will receive your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and officially become a permanent resident of Canada.
